and Community Policing as well as other topics. Please click on the

- Basic PTO Course

40-hour course that prepares participants
to train new officers in the Reno Model PTO Program.

Problem-Based Learning
- 24-hour course on the adult-learning
methodology of problem-based learning (PBL). Topics covered include
the history, structure, strengths and weaknesses of PBL and how to implement
it in police academies and FTO/PTO programs.

Train-the-Trainer PTO Course
- 80-hour course designed to prepare
participants to deliver the 40-hour course and train new PTOs.

Administration
of FTO/PTO Programs
- 24-hour course focusing on administration
of a post-academy training program to include scheduling, training
personnel, choosing an evaluation system, legal issues, problem-solving, and
termination of trainees.

Leadership
-
24 or 40-hour course in leadership.
Leadership is a problem-solving activity and is quite different from
management. Participants learn what leadership is and how it differs
from management and authority. Case studies are used to guide
participants through leadership challenges, the concept of failure, and the
application of problem-solving to law enforcement issues.

POP/COP Training
24-hour
course on Community-Oriented Policing and Problem-Solving.
